Study Abroad with CEA in Paris, France

Catholic University of Paris

The French Language Studies program at Institut Catholique is designed for students of any language level interested in acquiring and improving their language skills. With a broad liberal arts curriculum in history, politics, literature, writing, society, religion, cinema, theatre, and art history, this program features a diverse community of international students. All courses are taught in French, offered in small personalized classes, and designed for non-native French language students interested in French civilization and language.

Experience Paris

Renowned for its intellectuals, artists, writers, and revolutionaries, Paris evokes history, allure, and romance. It also serves as the administrative, commercial, and industrial center of France. Home to French haute couture, a rich and varied cuisine, and internationally known landmarks such as the Eiffel Tower and the Louvre, Paris is a fashionable capital that continues to set trends in art, politics, and business.

CEA programs in Paris offer numerous opportunities to explore French and Parisian culture through multiple housing options, French language courses taught at any level, and excursions to nearby destinations such as Monet's Giverny, Loire Valley Chateaux, or the Mont St. Michel. Savor the culinary culture with wine and cheese tastings, and in cooking lessons where you'll learn how to make crêpes. Depending on the time of year you study abroad, attend the Paris Jazz Festival, Nuit Blanche, Fete de la Musique, the Paris Air Show, Gay Pride, and more.

Academic Information

Chapman University maintains a record of the courses that previous study abroad students have taken, and the equivalent Chapman credit that was granted for each course. To view the course equivalencies for this program, click “Sample Pre-Approved Courses” at the top of each program brochure page. Please note that Sample Pre-Approved Courses are courses that have been previously requested by a Chapman student for credit. It is not a comprehensive list of all courses available at the institution.

You may view the entire course catalog for this program by following these instructions:
  • Go to the CEA Paris, France website
  • Click on “French Language Studies at Institut Catholique”
  • Choose the correct semester and year next to “Available Sessions” at the top left (example: “Spring 2019 Semester”)
  • Click on the “Course Listing” tab
Students are encouraged to request additional or revised equivalencies during the pre-departure process, which will be evaluated by the appropriate academic units on campus.

All courses must be taken for a letter grade. Classes taken as ‘Pass/Fail’ will not be accepted, with the exception of internships. Internships must be approved by the Center for Global Education.
