Theatre Academy London is a theatre-training program which enables students to study in London with some of London's leading theatre artists and earn major academic credit towards their degrees. Each semester at TAL offers a uniquely wide range of conservatory-style courses; from Acting to Playwriting: from Stage Combat to Directing; from Movement to Shakespeare. It also offers analytical courses in Theatre History and Criticism which make full use of the London setting to explore the history and development of drama. Each semester has a different focus:
Spring: Dramatic Writing Semester
A semester long program focusing on writing for stage and screen. Alongside these classes, the Spring semester also offers courses in the history and development of drama and its cultural and political contexts.
Fall: Performance Studies Semester
A semester long program of performance courses focused on actor training.
TAL is fully accredited by Florida State University and students may apply for a single semester or the full year.
All of the faculty are encouraged to use the city of London itself as a text, incorporating field trips within the city into their classes. These trips are complimented by an extensive social/cultural calendar for all the students, including daytrips outside of the city, excursions within London, and other events held at the Study Centre.
Located in historic Bloomsbury, a stone’s throw from the West End Theatre District and housed in a row of seventh-century townhouses, the London Study Centre combines modern conveniences with an historic setting. Consisting of fully self-contained and furnished apartments, the centre, amongst other amenities, boasts 24-hour wireless connectivity, three computer labs, a library, free laundry facilities, and a student lounge. Flats include shared bedrooms, bathroom with shower, living room with television, and a well-equipped kitchen. If these spaces are filled, students will be housed in comparable accommodations within central London.
